This naive handmade doll washstand was lovingly made from found materials around the homestead. The sides and doors are made from beadboard, but the sides are one style of board and the doors are another. Even though it is made from several different pieces of wood, the washstand has a rich honey color to it. The piece measures 5 ¾” wide, 4 5/8” tall and 3 3/8” deep. The doll standing beside it is an 8” doll, to give you some perspective of its size. Whoever made the washstand is more of a craftsman than I am, but it is not made with precision, but with love instead! The doors and drawer don’t fit perfectly, but that just adds to its primitive charm. I’m sure some child many years ago was thrilled to have it when money was tight and putting food on the table was more important than expensive toys. There are a few very small dings, commensurate with its age; the feet on the bottom show lots of wear, so this piece was played with a lot! On the back is a sawtooth hanger; apparently at some point in time this was used as a wall decoration.
This would be a charming addition to your doll or primitive collection. Please contact us if you have any questions. We will always consider any reasonable offer for our pieces.
