What a find! Not long after Barbie was introduced to the world, Mattel contracted Irwin Corp. to make a sports car for her, and they went all out. Soon, Barbie was sporting a salmon/peach 1962 Austin Healy with turquoise bucket seats. The personalized license tags read Barbie on the plastic, chrome-colored bumpers. The car is made from pliable and hard plastic materials. This car still has all the bumpers intact, the windshield, headlights, grill, and wheels that turn very easily. The windshield has some rub marks on it, and on the right side there are some faint scrape marks. The bumpers have some loss of the chrome color, but this seems to be the way all of them are after 55+ years. On the underside of this 18” long sportscar, it is marked: Irwin Made in the USA, and TM Lic @ by Mattel.
This would be a jazzy addition to your Barbie collection. Please contact us if you have any questions.
