Children’s shoe lasts or shoe forms are do endearing; they make wonderful decorative pieces. This 6 5/8” long form appears to have been quite fancy. There is a piece of wood inset at the instep. I’m wondering if that didn’t accommodate the making of shoes with different angles of insteps to make the shoes more comfortable. This shoe last is certainly a witness to lots of shoes being made, as evidenced on the underside with the many tiny nail holes that held the leather in place as the shoe was crafted; the underside of the toe is almost non-existent with nail after nail being hammered in. It’s truly a charming piece with lots of stories I wish it could tell.
