Long before the microwave, parents had to find other ways to warm their toddler’s food, and manufacturers stepped up to the task. Probably dating from the 1920-40s era, this porcelain bowl with the darling little, red-coated girl is cased in a chromium-like metal with a spout in which to pour hot water, which then heated the bowl; the lid to the spout is on very tight, and I haven’t been able to get it off – but I have a poor grip. There are two metal handles on the outside to easily carry the 6” diameter bowl without having to touch the hot sides. The metal is still very shiny, but does have some corrosion spots on it. In the photos, the bottom looks copper color, but that is just the reflection of the wood shelf above; there is a mark GW Co. in a triangle. The bowl still has a very shiny glaze, but there are a few utensil marks in the bottom, where a child must have hurried to eat her smashed peas so she could see the cute pattern at the bottom – a smiling child in a furry-looking red coat carrying a bag of toys.

This would be a cute addition to your kitchen or child wares collection. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please look at the photos closely, they are part of the description of the item. We will always consider any reasonable offer for our pieces.

Because of a court ruling, Ruby Lane is having to collect sales tax from buyers who live in states that impose a sales tax. They are also charging a buyer’s fee to help offset the cost of the reporting they now must do to remit the sales tax to the appropriate state. None of these fees collected go to the seller (us). If you are concerned about the fee, please visit with us before you decide against purchasing an item.

Remember, even if you do not have a PayPal account, you may pay with your credit card through PayPal. If paying by personal check, the item will be shipped as soon as the check clears the bank. However, on international sales, please pay via PayPal; also we cannot anticipate what your customs fees may be. So you may be charged customs or duties by you home country.

We estimate shipping/handling costs on the high side and will gladly refund the overage to you if you pay by PayPal.
