April 4, 1943, USS Redfin was launched at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company. She made seven war patrols and earned six Battle Stars. After the war, Redfin was reclassified as a radar picket sub, an auxiliary research sub and a Naval Reserve training ship. In 1968, the Manitowoc Submarine Memorial Association became interested in obtaining the USS Redfin for a submarine memorial in Manitowoc and launched a fundraiser of limited edition “Operation Redfin” Jim Beam decanters. In the end, the association decided to choose USS Cobia for a memorial instead due to cost and condition.
From the estate of a retired Naval chief warrant officer, we have one of these limited edition decanters. The decanter stands 11 ½” tall and is 7 ½” wide. The base is 2 ½” deep. It is in very good condition with no cracks, chips or crazing. The edges of the label are loose but most of the label is intact. The stopper fits securely.
This would make a great addition to your Jim Beam or military memorabilia collection. Please contact us if you have any questions. We will always consider any reasonable offer for our pieces.
