I’d love to know the story behind this collection box – it was made to collect money, but the coins couldn’t be easily retrieved once deposited into the box! There is no door nor hinge on the lid to open. There is one loose nail on the lid and a bit of a bow in the wooden lid – maybe the lid had to be pried open to get the money out, thus causing the lid to bow and nail to become loose. Whatever the story is on this 7 ½” square and 4 ¾” tall box, it’s interesting and would be a neat decorative piece. It is made of pretty substantial wood and the maker even gave it some style with the ogee foot scallops on the bottom of each side. There is cracking is a couple of places, the wood is unfinished, and the nails have rusted, but it’s got lots of character.
This would be such a fun piece to add to your primitive collection or to decorate with. Please contact us if you have any questions.
