Even though this oil painting isn’t signed, the artist, Joan Engelman, was local to my area, but was very well-known regionally and well respected. Done on a Pintura artist board, the piece measures 14” x 11”. The painting is done in the impressionist style, depicting a peaceful park with a man walking on a shady sidewalk to a pond in the background. This painting really draws you in; deep[into the painting you see a couple sitting on a park bench across from the pond with a fountain. True to Joan’s style (she loved birds and other fauna and flora), she has a duck in the foreground. As you study the piece, with the bold impressionist sweeps, you sometimes think you are catching glimpses of other creatures peeping out from the foliage. It’s a fascinating painting. It is not signed, but it was purchased from her estate; the painting is in excellent condition and ready to frame.
