I just love this 16 ½” tall carving/sculpture. It is carved out of one piece of wood – obviously a curved ebony branch; it is wonderful that the artist “gave into” the curve of the wood and carved some of the villagers leaning. Each face is so expressive and distinctive and carved with good detail, which contrasts with the very stark, thin legs and arms, and even though the feet are thin, they are detailed with each toe. Each person is carrying something in their right hand; I would love to know what the artist imagined each was carrying – it has to be significant! This is a wonderful, naïve piece with so much character. It is in excellent condition, with a crack in the base, but that is to be expected as wood ages. This is a substantial piece, weighing 6 lbs. 4 oz.

This would be a fabulous addition to your African art or sculpture collection or to use as an accent piece in your decor. Please contact us if you have any questions.
