This pastel of an Eastern Bluebird is beautifully executed. The artist’s use of the pastels nicely portrays the subtle coloring of the bird. It is signed Martin ‘77 on the bottom left. On the back is a note from the artist, gifting this piece to Melanie & Sonny. I don’t know who the artist is – there are several Charles Martins who can be found through Google, but I feel sure he is/was a local artist from the north Texas area. The view of the painting measures 13 3/8” x 10 3.8”, and the framed, double-matted piece measures 18” x 15”. The frame is a nicely-molded, thin wood stained in a rich, deep brown; it is matted with terracotta and blue mats. Non-glare glass helps keep reflections off of this truly interesting painting. Everything is in excellent shape – no cracks in the glass, clean matting, and perfect painting, and there don’t seem to be any dings in the wooden frame. There is a water stain on the dust cover on the back, but it doesn’t show to have come through to the front.
