Albeit this cat is skinnier than either of my cats, I’ve gotten the same look from my cats when I’ve fallen from grace – especially when I haven’t fed them enough! This 17 ½” x 14 ½” image was crafted with a lot of texture on the linen canvas, not thick as with a palette knife, but the oil paint applied with a course or dry brush technique. There isn’t as much texture with the cat, but shadowing truly emphasizes the cat’s features. There is craquelure along the back of the cat, but I’m not convinced it’s from age; it looks deliberate to me to add to the cat’s personality. The background shading is interesting, going from a golden yellow at the top that emphasizes the cat’s eyes, down to a gold-green at the bottom. It is signed at the lower right JE 72. It came from the Eby family estate in Wichita Falls, so this was probably done by a family member. I don’t know anything about them. The painting is framed in a satin gold frame with a black velvet mat or liner. The 23 ¼” x 20 ½” frame has very few dings, but there is one spot at the lower left corner; the velvet could use a good cleaning, but the piece could go on your wall today as is, without any problem.
This would be a fun and interesting addition to your art or cat collection. Please contact us if you have any questions. We will always consider any reasonable offer for our pieces.
