The American Crayon Company has its roots back to 1835, when chalk was being mass produced for sale. Through many mergers and name changes, in the 1890s the company became known as American Crayon Co., even though they were late entering the wax crayon competition. In the 1920s, the company “adopted” Louis Prang’s (a well-known artist, lithographer, publisher at the time) name and added it to their publicity. This blue and orange 5 ¾” x 3 ¾” x 3 ½ tin contained either their ”revolutionary” dustless chalk or their Prang Crayonex wax crayons. It’s not really clear, because they have both products on the box, plus a mention of their water colors and scissors, also. But that really makes this tin box all the more fun and interesting. It does have some loss of paint and darkening from being about 100 years old and probably holding many treasures over the years. There are very few small dings and some metal discoloration, but all of this is expected.

This would be a wonderful addition to your tin or art collection. Please contact us if you have any questions.
