Puremco, Inc., located in Waco, TX, used to be the largest domino manufacturer in the United States, but now they are the only domino company in the US; all the other companies moved offshore for cheaper labor. Puremco is a shortened version for Purvis Reeves Mfg. Co., which was founded in 1954 in Waco in the back of Purvis Bearing Co. George Purvis was a master at developing manufacturing machinery, and he came up with a way to automate the domino-making process, making him a leader in the industry.
The company also developed a way to personalize domino sets, like the one offered here. This is a standard set of double six dominoes, No. 616, which were made for a judge, David Brown, who was running for attorney general. The set is in mint condition and looks like they have never been played with. Also included is the instruction pamphlet for playing dominoes, which is intact with no tears in the paper. To attest to the age of the set, inside the lid are instructions for returning a damaged domino – for 50 cents you can return a damaged piece and get a replacement; the 50 cents includes the postage! You can’t buy anything for that small amount any longer.
This would make a wonderful addition to your vintage game collection or to use every day for family fun. Please contact us if you have any questions.
