This style of chicken waterer is really hard to find! First of all, it’s a bit of a puzzle on how to add water to it, since it doesn’t have a stopper in the lid. So maybe some people couldn’t figure it out! The 10 ¾” tall jug has to be tipped to the side and immersed in a container of water, fill water to the top, then set down. Only the bottom reservoir will fill as needed because a vacuum is formed – it’s like magic while you’re watering your chickens. A tray underneath isn’t needed, since the water only fills in the reservoir as the chickens drink it down. The jug measures 8 ¾” side to side with the reservoir, and 7 1/8” not including the reservoir. Not only is this a utilitarian piece, it also makes a wonderful primitive decorative piece for a country kitchen or family room. The piece almost has the look of a face jug/vase that have become so popular and are quite collectible! It has some dings in the brown glaze and a couple of hairline cracks, but the pottery is so thick (about ½” thick), I would doubt the cracks go through. It is quite substantial, weighing 7 lbs. 6 oz.

This would be a wonderful primitive addition to a country kitchen or an addition to your crock or stoneware collection.! Please contact us if you have any questions.
