Unity Pewter items were made between 1925-1939 by Barker Brothers of Birmingham, England, for the Cooperative Wholesale Society for Pewter Wares. I would imagine World War II did away with any manufacturing of metal wares. These candle holders are 12” tall with 5” diameter bases. Both the base and the top that holds the candle are made from hammered pewter. The pewter and the carved, open barley twist wood have wonderful, warm patinas. The bottoms of the bases are marked “Unity” Pewter and English Make. There are also hand incised markings that are hard to decipher. The wood and the pewter are in very good shape with no detectable repairs or cracks; there is slight expected wear. The barley twist is screwed into the bases to a hand-tight fit and do loosen some but can be hand-tightened again. They are just lovely!
These would be a warm addition to any décor and to use every day. Please contact us if you have any questions.
They are priced as a pair.
