The Star of Bethlehem quilt pattern has been a popular one by quilters for at least a couple of hundred years. Also known as Lone Star, Rising Star, or Blazing Star, the pattern is made of a myriad of small diamond-shape pieces of fabric to form the star. On this quilt, each piece has been hand stitched together. This hand-quilted, lightweight, 82” x 75” quilt was someone’s favorite. Along one side is a lot of wear (in two photos), where it was, obviously, pulled up every night for years as someone snuggled into bed. There are also a number of the small diamond pieces where the fabric is worn thin, some to the point of splitting. From afar, it is hard to see the thinning fabric, but there are several patches that have thinned or worn fabric. There are a few spots on the quilt. This would be a wonderful project for a quilter to restore or it is a charming testament to a long ago era when, before adequate heating and cooling, quilts were all that kept us from the whims of weather.
