This old mold fashioned in the shape of a fish has been in my personal collection for years. It has so much character and you don’t find ceramic molds as easily as the metal ones. This rich, creamy colored mold is 11” long, 4 5/8” wide and 2 ¾” deep. A heavy string in threaded through two holes, allowing it to be hung up. There are some sand marks from the manufacture of the piece and a rough spot on the side that looks like it didn’t get completely glazed and the spot has turned; there are a couple of small spots where the glaze has chipped. Underglaze browning is evident along the bottom of the mold, but I think that adds to its charm, and, on the inside; the slight discoloration helps to see the features of the fish. The mold is quite substantial, weighing 1 lb. 12 oz. It would look wonderful displayed with brown transferware.
