After Mattel discontinued the 1967 Francie doll as the first African American companion to the Barbie doll, in 1968 they introduced Christie as a friend of Barbie’s. They used the Barbie body and didn’t design clothes especially for Christie; so the new doll could be dressed in Barbie clothes. Even though she was introduced in 1968, the mark on her right tush reads: @ 1966, Mattel, U.S. Patented, U. S. Pat. Pend., Made in Japan. On the left tush is the number 11. This 11 ½” doll is in excellent condition. Her hair has turned a reddish color, which happened most of the time with the African American Francie and Christie dolls. Her eyelashes are still lush and all there; no hair is missing and it is still fixed nicely. Her color is wonderful with bright lipstick, good cheek color, and copper/brown eyes. She has the twist and turn waist. There are no splits or cracks on her body. There is a circle on the bodice of her orange houndstooth jumpsuit, which looks like there was ornamentation on it that has come off. She is quite a find!
