With the philosophy that the dinner table was the heart of the home, Russel Wright first designed his colorful American Modern dishes in the late 1930s. Made by Steubenville Pottery, they were manufactured in several colors so that pieces could be mixed to add not only heart to the dinner table, but also color. These were manufactured from 1939-59 and were replaced his by Casual line, which was also colorful, but also ready for the more modern kitchens, which included dishwashers. It is suggested that the American Modern dishes be hand washed but have still proven to be very collectible. These 9 ¾” coral dinner plates are in excellent condition. There is no crazing and there are no chips; there are very few utensil makes. On the back you can see the firing marks, but that is part of the manufacture and not a flaw. The finish is still very shiny, as you can see from the photos.
