In spite of almost two centuries of jam and preserve making, this wonderful spun brass preserve pot still retains its wonderful brass color and patina. This very substantial pot (it weighs about 7 lbs.) is 10 ½” in diameter and stands 12 ¼” tall to the top of the handle. The pot itself is 5” deep. The brass handle is held on with copper rivets. The pot does have some stains and the handle has black marks and other marks on it, but all of this just testifies to its age and use. The bottom of the pot shows very prominent spun marks. There is a hand-written number 845 on the bottom, but I feel that is of recent origin and not an identifying mark for this early 19th century pot. It appears to be English.
