Before the studio art glass movement, artists would design the art glass, but craftsmen would actually blow the glass. As the movement progressed, glass studios were established so that the artists could produce their own work. This 17” irregularly round shallow bowl is stunning both in its design and colors used. The bright red center draws your eye immediately to this large piece, but then you see the blue, orange, orchid, yellow green, olive green blueish white and dark swirls and splotches radiate out from the red. The backside is a translucent off-white. It is a stunning piece that my camera only moderately captured; also my camera picked up some white overhead light reflections; the long white streaks are not part of the design. What a shame that we cannot identify who the artist is; a signature is clearly etched on the bottom, but we cannot read the signature. The estate from which this piece was acquired had 45 years’ worth of receipts from all the pieces that had been purchased world-wide, but we can’t match a receipt with this signature to identify it. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks; there are a few bubbles in the glass, but that is part of the creation process. It is very substantial, weighing 8 lbs.; the photos make this piece look round, but it measures 17” across one way, 16” another and 16 ¼” across another way. It is 3” tall on one side and 3 ½” on the other; so not only is it irregular in its diameter, it also undulates around the rim.

This piece is one of many in an art glass collection that we recently acquired.

What a great find to add to your art glass collection or just as an accent piece on your shelf. Please contact us if you have any questions.
