John Nygren began his artistic life in ceramics, and after receiving his Masters in Fine Arts taught pottery in North Carolina. However, he had always had an interest in glass and set up a furnace and blew glass at night. He finally quit pottery and began working exclusively in glass. His works have been represented at galleries and museums all over the United States including the Smithsonian and the Corning Glass Museum. This great vase is an early piece, signed by John Nygren and dated 1974. Many of his pieces are inspired by the North Carolina landscape, fauna and flora, and this 5 ¾” tall handblown vase is no exception. It is decorated with three orange birds with black wings sitting on branches. It just makes you smile to look at this piece. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There is very little wear on the bottom, even though it is over 40 years old.
This piece is one of many in an art glass collection that we recently acquired. What a great find to add to your art glass collection or just as an accent piece on your shelf. Please contact us if you have any questions.
