There is no telling how many pots were stirred with this paddle or scraper. I feel sure it was hand-hewn out of a leftover piece of scrap wood that was lying around the shop or barn. Measuring 13 ¼” in length, it is a substantial handle on it, making it easy to grip. The piece is 1 ¾” wide and about 5/8’ deep. It has darkened over the years with use and has the expected cuts and nicks on it from years of use. The scraping end of the paddle has bevels on both sides for more easily scraping out preserves and vegetables into canning jars, it is could have been used to stir the laundry in the wash tub. It has a rich dull patina to it.
