A gorgeous antique expandable book shelf or book ends made of very solid gold plated metal featuring a lovely Grecian golden goddess type female figure on either end using her watering can over flowers. The imagery is very detailed and just lovely, and you see that her gown is draped and opened with her bosom exposed. It measures about 12 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 1" flat, it opens to 12" and extends all the way to about 21 1/2" to accommodate your antique books or boxes.
In good antique condition without any dents or repairs, some rubbings to the interior gold plate noticed inside where it is numbered 9072 and some minor scratches pretty standard for antiques of this age and only seen if inspected up close.
I could not find any other branding or signature other than the number, which is typical for Hubbard and Bradley, but can not definitely attribute, but certainly it is very similar to the quality of their metal works.
You see it in the last few photos displayed with similar ormolu Victorian metal pieces so you get an idea of how it would work for you. I love it and don't mind keeping it for my own home, so I'm looking around on my bookcases to see if I should keep it ;) I bought it for my shop but sometimes I can't resist keeping something this beautiful for myself. So, we'll see. I will try to resist.
So, possibly American or French in origin, circa late 1800s.
