A wonderful antique filigree metal belt in the Renaissance design which had a strong revival, and still does! This belt is composed of filigree metal plaques joined together by hoops, with beautiful high cut hand cut foiled back paste stone in claw down settings in every other one.
Small in size, it would be for a very petite lady, or even could be worn as a head piece, it measures 23 1/2" across to include the clasp and about 1" width, the front fancy metalwork is 2 1/2" x 2".
The belt has 10 beautifully faceted shiny and bright hand cut paste which really add to the very regal Renaissance look. It is likely from a Theatrical company in the late 1800s, early 1900s.
In very good antique condition, the silver color plated metal is worn in places and the paste are bright and shiny but when inspected with a loop do show the much of the back foiling has worn away. A testament to the true age of the jewel, which is about 1900-1910.
I would say it is Czech or French in origin.
