All hand painted on gold foil then set on a textured material, this completely hand made 4 panel tabletop or doll screen is really fabulous for a back drop display.
It measures 9 1/4" x 14" and can fold completely down for transport. It is in very good vintage condition, the gold foil and paint is still very, very bright. Metal clip on each end add to the detail. It is signed on the bottom right in Japanese, but I can not read it.
It is an early artist screen probably from I would say the 1920s. It is in very good condition without any tears or stains on the front. The back shows a few tiny stains on the neutral tone paper.
The exquisitely painted floral garden design is gorgeous with draping wisteria coming down from the top to a bush of gardenias, peonies, blooming tulips and iris's. You see in a few of the photos the screen displayed with little dolls so you get an idea of how well it could work with your precious miniature dolls. But it is truly a work art that can be displayed on it's own merit!
I am always amazed when artist paper items of this age still survive, especially when they were not kept under glass and in this beautiful condition. Asian in origin, circa 1920-1940.
