This early portrait miniature of a regal court lady in period costume is hand painted under beveled glass and set into a pretty gold filled charm. This miniature is so tiny it measures under an inch, the artist very anonymous, but extremely competent artist who painted it used a technique known as stippling. which requires the artist to use tiny dots until the resemblance of the subject is complete. I've examined it under a loop several times and it is not a print, it is a painting.
The gold filled frame has typical Georgian initials in script to the reverse with some wear and scratching to the gold fill metal. Really lovely detailed floral surround on the front around the painting. The miniature is excellent with just a tad of watercolor that has come off at the very bottom of the painting under under the ruffle of the dress, undetectable unless closely inspected. Very petite in statue, it measures just about an inch across, French in origin, circa late 1700s, early 1800s.
