A pretty little locket with nicely faceted glass on either side set in sterling silver metal, an additional band of gold inside around the front glass piece. I had it sent to me from an English antique seller so I do believe it is English in origin and is an early locket from the early 1700s. It is a small little sentimental treasure!
There is a very minimal wear as expected from any genuine article that was used but also there is a small flaw to the bottom front glass or likely crystal panel on the inside of the glass (a little chip) as you can see on the pictures where the locket is opened, so I am listing it for less than I paid for it. Its hard to see when the locket is filled, see the last photos to get the best idea of the condition.
The faceting around the edge of the glass (or crystal), the hinge and the little silver nibs that open and close the locket is exactly like the Stuart Crystal heart lockets that I've had (and sold) in the past. Very much like what was used for wax images to be encased. So I am dating the locket about 1700-1720 and English in origin, the little paintings were added later, they are likely French, circa early 1900.
