A rare set of Raphael Tuck & Sons chromolithograph children's miniature fold out books with early advertising on the reverse. This set includes three little books of fairytales that include the stories of Hansel and Gretel, Puss in Boots and The Seven Ravens with bright and beautiful images imprinted with die cute edges and a little story at the bottom of each image.
They each measure about 3" x 2" and fold out to 11 1/2". An amazing find and in very good condition with just a few little bends and repair on the last page of The Seven Ravens, and little wear to the creases where the books were opened. Originally they must have been taped down because there is evidence of such on the reverse, possibly they were in a scrapbook but I bought them years ago as they are and just tucked them away in a French box for years, and that is why the colors remain so bright.
Each indicate they were designed in England and printed in Germany. I date them circa late 1800s. These little books are so rare, as much of this type of thing was thrown out. And the condition, for something meant to entertain children, is close to amazing. Doubtful I will ever find them again in my lifetime.
Please see in the first photos how great they display with little dolls (who are for reference only, the Bluettes are no longer available).
