Here is a sweet doll that looks very much like the Bye-lo but his little head is only marked IV. He (or she) has the more realistic baby face like the Bye-lo of the 1920s; the eyes are blue glass and set and his little face has nicely rendered features. He has celluloid hands and the old cloth stuffed 'frog' shaped baby body. He is wearing what is likely his original undershirt with an old cloth diaper and socks.
When you place him over the voice box still works and cries. He measures about 14". His condition is overall pretty good but there was a small repair to under his left eye (please enlarge the face close up photo) and his cheeks have a few small rubs. He was sold to me as a Grace Putnum, and he does look like it, but with that marking I cannot ascertain that he is, so I'm saying he is an antique Germany baby, probably made about 1920.
