This most attractive, large, gold plated, medal is French. It is representation of Saint Florence of Comblé in France. She was a fourth century Phrygian (Phrygia is now Turkey) and was converted to Christianity by St Hilary. Thereafter she lived the life of a recluse devoting herself to prayer until she died at the age of 29.
The medal measures 1 and 5/8” (4.1cms) across and weighs a substantial 26.1 grams.
Here is a wonderful raised image of Saint Florence. She is represented as a beautiful young lady with a plait. Above her head is a scallop shell – the emblem of pilgrims. Her name is inscribed around the edge on scrolls. The artist’s signature is at bottom right. The gold plating has a wonderful glow with a matt finish .
At the top is a ring and a bail. The back is blank.
This beautiful medal is in fine vintage condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
