This delightful French silver medal is a naive version of the Miraculous Medal, first produced in 1830. From its appearance I would say it is from the nineteenth century. It is hallmarked for 800 -900 silver quality.
The delicately shaped medal measures 1 and 1/16” (2.7cms) long, including the ring, by 5/8” (1.7cms). It weighs 2.7 grams.
On the front is an engraved image of the Virgin Mary with sacred rays emanating from her hands. Her feet are crushing Satan in the form of a serpent . The background is finely testured
There is a ring and a bail at the top. The ring bears the boar’s head hallmark for 800-900 silver . The back is blank for an engraving.
This most charming medal is in fine antique condition. It comes to you tissue wrapped in a gift box.
