This most delightful French silver medal dates back to the nineteenth century. It bears the French crab hallmark for 800-900 silver quality It is double sided - one side has an image of the Holy Infant and the other the Guardian Angel and child.
The oval medal measures 1 and 1/8” (2.8cms), including the ring, by 13/16” (2cms) across. It weighs 1.9 grams.
On one side is an exquisite, raised image of the Child Jesus in nineteenth century dress. He sits triumphantly on a cloud and holds an orb surmounted by a cross. The detail is quite amazing! Around the edge are the words ‘ Congregation du Saint Enfant Jesus’ – Congregation of the Holy Infant Jesus. At the base is a diamond shaped maker’s mark.
On the reverse is an equally wonderful image of the Guardian Angel leading a child who holds a little lantern. The words around the edge are ‘St Ange Guardien Soyez Mon Guide’ – Holy Guardian Angel be my guide.
The top ring bears the crab mark for 800-900 silver and there is a bail to hold a chain. This very rare medal is in amazingly good condition and will arrive in a gift box.
