This charming French medal celebrates both Saint Julia and Our Lady. It is enamelled on thickly silver plated metal.
Saint Julia of Corsica was a virgin martyr who is venerated as a Christian saint. The date of her death is most probably on or after AD 439.
The diamond shaped medal measures ¾” (2cms) across. It has a ring with a maker’s mark and a bail at the top.
The front is enamelled in turquoise with a central silvered roundel. It contains a raised image of Julia in a nun’s habit. Around the edge are the words in Latin `Beata Julia Ora Pro Nobis' – Blessed Julia Pray for Us' At the base is inscribed ‘France’.
On the other side is a lovely crowned shield within which are the letters ‘ND’ for Notre Dame – Our Lady. It is surrounded by the most exquisite garlands of lilies and roses.
This wonderful, double sided medal is in fine vintage condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
