Here is a pretty, gold filled, Art Nouveau circa 1900-1910, pin inscribed ‘Fix’, a mark founded in 1823 with a secret formula for this type of 18 carat thickly gold filled jewellery.
The subject is Joan of Arc, the celebrated French heroine. And the pin is marked ‘FIX’.
The pin measures 1½” (4cms) across the centre and 9/16” (1.5cms).
On the front is a beautiful, raised image of Joan of Arc. She is in her garden listening to her ‘voices’. She clasps her hand together as an angel with a sword hovers over her. I have previously seen this design signed ‘L.O Mottei’. On either side are delicately formed and engraved clover leaves.
The design carries over to the reverse. Here is a quite different scene. Joan is about to be burnt at the stake in the square at Rouen. She wears a simple robe and clutches her crucifix. There are houses in the background and onlookers.
In a cartouche is the mark ‘FIX’. The old style c clip carries a maker’s mark.
This delightful piece which carries so much historical and religious significance is in excellent antique condition. The gold really glows! It will arrive in a gift box.
