This exquisite, antique, 9 carat gold cross bears full English hallmarks but the year has been rubbed away. I think it may be 1913 . In any case the style is very much that of the Edwardian period.
It measures 1 and 3/8” (3.5cms) long, including the ring, and ¾” (1.8cms) across. It weighs 1.4 grams.
On the front the cross is delicately engraved with ivy leaves, the Victorian/ Edwardian symbol of remembrance. In the centre is a plain shield for a monogram.
At the top is a ring and a bail for a chain.
On the plain back is the maker’s mark which encompasses a ‘W’ and an ‘H’. There follow the hallmarks ‘9.375’ for 9 carat gold, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office and finally the date letter which could be ‘O’ for 1913.
In fine antique condition, this lovely cross will arrive in a gift box.
