This most lovely, French , medal is made of bronze and features St. Cecelia. I am dating this medal to circa 1910. There are no marks.
It measures 1” (2.5cms) in diameter and weighs 8.2 grams. At the top is a ball ring a bail to hold a chain.
Saint Cecelia, the patroness of Musicians, is depicted playing a stringed instrument which resembles a harp. She has a strong face and wavy hair. Her mouth is open as if she is singing. The detailing of her hands and robe are superb.
The back has a leafy border with love knots. The centre has been left plain for an engraving.
This fabulous medal packs so much detail into so little space. The bronze is a lovely shade with shine on the high points. It will arrive in a gift box.
