This most impressive, large cross dates to the Victorian period. It is made of base metal with a gold overlay.
It measures 2 and 5/8” (6.7cms), including the ring, by 1¾” (4.5cms). It weighs 24.3grams so is very substantial.
The front has a lovely scrolling, engraved design on the arms. At the centre is a blank diamond shape, perhaps intended for an engraving. Around it are four triangles finished with tiny roundels.
At the top is a ring and a large bail.
The reverse is plain and shiny. There is a scratch on one side where someone has excavated to see if it was solid gold. Otherwise this lovely cross is in excellent condition and will arrive in a gift box.
