This really beautiful, French, cross is marked ‘Fix’, a mark founded in 1823 by the jeweller, Savard with a secret formula for this type of 18 carat thickly gold filled jewellery. I am dating this crucifix to the Art Nouveau period circa 1900. It accompanied by an unmarked , gold filled chain of the same period.
The chain measures 17” (43xms) long and closes with an old style tubular clasp.
The cross measures 1 and 11/16” (4.2cms) long, including the top ring, and 1” (2.5cms) across.
The cross is delicately shaped and pierced. The arms are delicately engraved with ivy leaves and berries. In the centre is a roundel with an image of Christ.
There is a ring and a bail at the top. The ring bears the maker’s mark on the front and ‘FIX’ on the reverse. The back is beautifully finished with a plain roundel in the centre.
In excellent antique condition , this exceptional cross and chain will arrive in a gift box
