This charming rosary is French. It is composed of mother of pearl beads with an 18 carat gold plated centre and crucifix. This rosary dates to the Art Deco period and I believe that it is ‘new old stock’.
The rosary measures 22" (55 cms) around with a further drop of 5 and 3/8” (13.7cms), including the cross. It weighs 13.1 grams.
It is ornamented with 6mm wide mother of pearl beads connected by lengths of gold plated chain. The centre is a typically deco image of the Virgin Mary.
At the end of the drop is the crucifix. It is 1 and 7/16” (3.7cms) long. Each arm is ornamented with a diamond shape and there is a fine, foliate engraving along its length. The corpus is separately applied. A curiosity is that the nails on Christ’s hands are rather large . The back is blank.
This delicate and very pretty rosary is in excellent vintage condition. It would make a perfect gift for a young girl at her First Communion It will arrive in a gift box.
