This large and beautiful Saint Esprit or Holy Spirit dove pendant comes from Northern France. It tests to 800-900 silver quality with paste stones. I am dating it to the early to mid 19th century. These were usually worn on a velvet band at the neck.
It measures 2 and 15/16” (7.3cms) long by 1 and 5/8” (4.2cms) across the widest part. It weighs 14.4 grams.
It is articulated into two sections. At the top is a pierced halo of small glittering pastes. Within it is a bow feature with a larger, round paste. Hanging from it is the delicately formed dove encrusted with more sparkling pastes. I should mention that many of the pastes have black dots, a sign of early nineteenth century pastes. In his beak the dove holds a branch with small coloured pastes.
The back is smoothly finished and closed at the back , an indication of an older piece. There is a loop at the top. There are two marks on the loop , probably French provincial marks.
This wonderful antique Saint Esprit is in great condition with all the pastes in place and glittering. It comes to you carefully presented in a gift box.
