This delightful, miniature, nineteenth century locket or reliquary bears a French hallmark for 800-900 silver locket. It has an enamel plaque.
The oval locket measures 7/8” (2.2cms) by 5/8” (1.7cms). It weighs 3.8 grams.
On the front is a raised shield, enamelled in dark blue. Picked out in gold is a motif incorporating an ‘N’ and ‘D’ for Note Dame (Our Lady). Within it is the Sacred Heart of Jesus and it is surmounted with a crown.
The locket opens via two notches. Within it is a glassed compartment for a lock of hair or a relic. It closes with a gentle snap.
The back is blank . There is a ring and a bail at the top. The ring bears the boar’s head hallmark for 800-900 silver.
This charming piece is in fine antique condition. There are just a couple of hardly noticeable, minute dings on the back. It will arrive in a gift box.
