This most wonderful, sterling silver bracelet bears full English hallmarks for the year 1945,so it is over 70 years old. The theme is St Christopher and St George. St Christopher is, of course, the patron saint of travellers and St. George the patron saint of England (and a few other places).
The silver gilt bracelet measures 7 and 1/8” (18cms) long and it is ¾“ (1.9cms) wide. It weighs 32.3 grams.
The bracelet has seven alternating discs , celebrating each saint. The discs are linked top and bottom.
The St Christopher disc shows the saint carrying the Child Jesus across the river. The outer edge is engraved with attractive wavy line. St George is represented on his horse slaying the dragon. This disc has the same wavy design but it is enamelled in mid blue. The contrast between the gilt and blue is very attractive.
The bracelet closes with a push in clasp which holds firmly
Every disc is marked with the lion passant for sterling silver and the leopard’s head for the London assay office. Additionally one carries the maker’s mark ‘W&S’ and the date letter ‘K ‘ for 1945. Another disc bears the registration number ‘REG8452143’.
This truly beautiful and rare bracelet with two popular saints is in excellent vintage condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
