This charming French silver small locket was a First Communion gift. It bears the boar’s head hallmark for 800-900 silver quality. I am dating it to circa 1910.
It measures 7/8” (2.2cms) across and weighs 8.5 grams.
On the front is a wonderful. Raised image of a beautiful young woman praying before the Holy Chalice. Above her is a spray of lilies. The Holy Chalice in clouds is radiating outwards. At the base is a partial artist’s signature.
At the top is a ring which carries the boar’s head and a maker’s mark. There is a bail for a chain.
The locket opens via two notches at the right. The interior is clean and there are no covers. The locket snaps firmly shut.
On the back is a blank scroll for a monogram. Around it are the words ‘Souvenir de Première Communion’.
In fine antique condition with a lovely patina of age, this sweet locket will arrive in a gift box.
