This bold and beautiful Arts and Crafts cross dates to the early 20th century, possibly circa 1910- 1920. It is made of gold plated metal with glass stones. The Arts and Crafts movement was more concerned with the look of a piece than the materials used.
It measures 3 and 7/16” (8.7cms) long, including the bail, by 1¾” (4.5cms).
The delicately engraved, gothic style cross is gilded with the mat effect typical of older pieces.
At the top is a decorative bail set with a faux garnet and turquoise. The arms have raised floral motifs set with faux turquoise cabochons and a faux garnet in the centre. The centre is further embellished with tiny plain flowers.
The back of the bail is engraved but otherwise the back of the cross is smoothly finished.
Although a costume piece, this cross has a very good look. I am sure the new owner will be pleased. It will arrive in a gift box.
