This very unusual and very beautiful cross pendant tests as rubies with a clear spinel on 9 carat gold. My best guess is that it dates to circa 1930-1950.
It measures 1 and 13/16” (4.7cms) by 1 and 3/16” (3.1cms). It weighs 2.1 grams.
The shape is simple but lovely. The ruby stones, set in a gold surround, are a rich pinky red and fan out from the centre. They are delicately faceted and open backed to reflect the light. In the centre is brilliant, claw set, white spinel gemstone which really sparkles. It has a frilled gold surround.
At the top is a ring and a shaped bail with diagonal engraving. The back is neatly finished.
This wonderful cross is in fine vintage condition and will arrive in a gift box.
