This delightful, French , religious medal or charm celebrates St Anne, the mother of Mary. It is hallmarked for 800-900 silver quality. It is signed ‘Penin’. The Penins from Lyons, France were a prolific family of medallists over four generations and started signing medals in 1830 to the present day. I believe that this one dates to circa 1920-1930.
It measures 5/8” (1.5cms) in diameter and weighs 1.7 grams. At the top is a ring and a bail. The ring bears the crab hallmark for 800-900 silver and there is also a maker’s mark.
Saint Anne is represented sitting in a high backed chair. She has her arm around the child , Mary and they appear to be sharing a book. The image is raised against a dark background Around the edge is a band engraved with ‘Sainte Anne Priez Pour Nous’ (Pray for us).
The reverse has been left blank for an engraving.
This exquisite medal is in fine vintage condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
