This beautiful 9 carat gold cross was made by the old established Company , Henry Griffiths and Sons, now no longer. The company was established in 1850 and produced high quality gold and rolled gold products. This cross is hallmarked for 1938.
It measures 2” (5cms) long and 1 and 1/16” (2.7cns) across. It weighs 3.3 grams.
On the front is a charming, engraved scrolling leaf design. There is a square in the centre with a floral image and a cross. The ring is integrated into the top and there is a bail to carry a chain.
The reverse is inscribed ‘HG&S’ for Henry Griffiths and Sons. Then there are the English hallmarks. First comes the most sought after Chester hallmark, the three sheaves of wheat. The Chester assay office ceased to exist in 1962. Then there is ‘9 375’ for 9 carat gold and finally the date letter ‘N’ for 1938.
This lovely cross is in fine vintage condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
