This beautiful 9 Carat gold crucifix comes from Italy but bears British import and verification marks. The accompanying chain also tests as 9 carat gold.
The chain measures 19½” long. It closes with a ring clasp. There is an adjacent tag which is marked ‘IR’, maybe a maker’s mark. Together with the crucifix it weighs 4.5 grams.
The crucifix is 1¾” (4.5cms) long and is 1 and 1/16” (2.7cms) across.
This is a very pure looking piece as a wooden cross would have been. The rounded arms are unadorned, shiny gold, finished with sloping ends. The scroll with ‘inri’ is at the top and the gleaming corpus has been separately applied. The back is plain gold.
The ring at the top has some interesting marks. One side has the Italian marks – ‘375’ for 9 carat gold and ‘AR’ for Arezzo where it was made. There is also a maker’s mark. On the other side there is also ‘375’, LLd. Which I suspect is for Adie and Lovekin ltd., a British import mark and finally the date letter ‘H’ which is for 1982.
This impressive crucifix is in excellent vintage condition and will arrive in a gift box.
