This lovely reliquary cross is hallmarked for French silver. It dates to the nineteenth century and is exceptional condition.
It is remarkably large. Measuring 2 and 3/4” (7cms), including the top ring, by 1 and 5/8” (4cms). It is 6 mms thick and weighs 16.2 grams.
The corpus is wonderfully detailed. The cross itself is delicately delineated with rays emanating from Christ’s head. There is a similar design on the back.
At the top the ring bears the crab mark for 800-900 quality silver and a maker’s mark.
There are knobs on either side of the arms and an elongated knob at the base. The latter screws undone to reveal the empty interior which would originally have held a saint’s relic. It closes firmly when screwed in.
This wonderful religious object was cleaned before I received it so is in near original condition. It will arrive in a gift box.
