This charming Art Deco, French, Virgin Mary pendant or charm is marked ‘Fix’, a mark founded in 1823 by the Parisian jeweller, Savard, with a secret formula for this type of 18 carat thickly gold filled jewellery.
The French are very familiar with the concept of elegant gold filled jewellery so thick that there are hardly ever signs of wear. The designs and quality are generally so good that they are hard to tell from their solid gold counterparts.
The medal measures 15/16” (2.4cms),including the top ring, by 9/16” (1.4cms) across.
The raised image in the centre is the Virgin Mary in a pose reminiscent of the Miraculous Medal. Her figure is exquisitely detailed with rays emanating from her hands. She stands on a boulder , trampling the serpent which is Satan underfoot.
Above the curved top is a ring and a bail for a chain.
The reverse carries the Marial symbol, an M intertwined with a cross, Beneath this are the pierced hearts of Mary and Jesus. At the base is ‘FIX’ in an oval and there is also the mark of Savard.
In excellent condition , this beautiful and very rare piece will arrive in a gift box
